Show FAST PASSENGER COMPETITION ENDS WASHINGTON, Feb. 21. Fast passenger pas-senger train competition between New York and Chicago, Chicago and St Louis, Washington and southern points and other important passenger terminals will be eliminated soon, tho railroad administration announced today. to-day. Certain roads will be selected for fast passenger trains and other lines devoted more extensively to freight trafflc. Investigation has been made by A. H. Smith, regional director for tho east, to determine whether the New York Central, Pennsylvania or Baltimore Balti-more & Ohio sh'ould bo used for fast passenger trains between New York and Chicago. It is understood the New York Central is being considered most favorably because of heavy freight on tho other two lines. The elimination between Chicago and St Louis Is under consideration by R, H. Alshton, regional director at Chicago. By this means the railroad administration hopes to save many millions of dollars without inconveniencing inconven-iencing passenger traffic. |
