Show Brigham City Sportsmen to Petition State Fish and Game Department. j BRIGHAM CITY, Feb. 20. The state fish and game department will be : asked by local sportsmen to open the I duck hunting season for a period dur- j ing the early spring in order that a few thousand of the mltllons of birds J now wintering on Bear River bay may be turned into food Instead of jeopardizing jeopar-dizing tho wild game In that region I thousands of ducks and geese nre bound to become diseased and die on account of the overcrowded condition existing there. Another argument set forth by local men familiar with the hunting 6f those birds is that every winter thousands of geese that gather in this section after tho fall shooting season closes leave here beforo tho season reopens and that these birds arc now In the be.st possible condition for eating and that to use them now would mean a big saving In other kinds of meat. Sportsmen who have been over the ground recently declare that it would bo a blessing to kill off somo of the birds now. both for the welfare of the flocks and for the people who might use them for food. The matter is being presented to the stato officials by James Knudson, former for-mer deputy gamo warden for Box Elder county. |
