Show BOARD OF EDVCIT1 WILL OPPOSE II HIGH SCHOOL BRIGHAM CITY, Feb. 21. That Bear River Valley will not get a high school this year seems to be the sentiments senti-ments of a majority if not all the members of the board of education. There are various reasons advanced by Brigham City people as to why Box Elder county cannot erect a high school in the Bear River Valley this year, chiefly the shortage of finances. To carry out the wishes of the people of Bear River Valley this year would mean bonding and the school district is already bonded for 5200,000 for school purposes, and the need of the valley for a high school at once is not considered Imperative enough to warrant war-rant the board of education issuing bonds during war times, it Is said. Another feature that will have to be overcome in the Bear River Valley, it is intimated, before the board of education edu-cation will expend perhaps $150,000 for the erection, equipment and maintenance mainten-ance of a high school in the valley, will bo the matter of location. The site selected by the people is one mile from the nearest pupils, being at a point midway between Tromonton and Garland, Gar-land, or one mile from each town. To attend the proposed high school at that point most of the pupils attending from places other than Garland and Tremonton, would be compelled to leave home during the school week Just the same as they do to attend the Box Elder high school. Under these conditions it is quite likely that the erection of the Bear River Valley high school will be indefinitely postponed. |
