Show USE OF NEW EDISON BATTERY AT STAKE Washington, Jan. 19. The findings of the naval board of inquiry which made a preliminary investigation to determine tho cause of the explosion aboard submarine E-2 at the New York navy yard Saturday are regarded regard-ed by Secretary Daniels as inconclusive inconclu-sive and he will nwait the report of the naval court of inquiry now making mak-ing an investigation. The board held that the explosion was due to gas generated by the new Edison storage battery and Ignited by a spark of unknown origin. Five men were killed and nine others seriously seri-ously Injured In the disaster. The question of the future use of the Edison batteries on submarines may depend upon the outcome of the report of the court of inquiry as Secretary Sec-retary Daniels hopes to determine from it whether the battery itself was responsible for the explosion! |
