Show VETERAN FIREMEN ENTERTAIN. M Tho Ogden Veteran Firemen's asso- jH ciation and Ladles' auxiliary held a H social and card party last night in H the Firemen's room in the basement H of tho city hall. The event was the M first of its kind to be held since the M installation of the new officers of IB the two organizations, who acted as H the entertainment committee. H Upwards of 40 persons attended the H rarty, crowding the small room almost H to a point of discomfort, but this was H offset in a large measure by the spirit H of sociability, which always prevails M at parties which are sponsored by tho H city's early volunteer fire fighters. H The card playing kept the gathering H Interested until 10:30 o'clock and then H a nicely appointed luncheon was serv- H ed by the lady members of the com- ,H mittee. This consisted of several H kinds of sandwiches, coffee and as- .H sorted "home-made" cakes and was ,H thoroughly enjoyed. H Features of special interest in con- H nection with the social wero the pres- H entatlon of a gavel to Mrs. F. H. H Whitehead, president of the Ladles' H Auxiliary, by the Veteran Firemen's .H association, and the return of the bell H which called the firemen to action in H earlier days, to its place in the hall, H handsomely mounted. The gavel, H which was made of native mahogany H by a local woodworker, was presented H by John R. Horspool, who made a neat H speech on behalf of his lodge. jH The return of the bell was reported H by Hyrum Goodale and Joseph Wood. H It was mounted at the Brown Found- H ry on Twenty-first street, its new H stand being of gold and silver gilded fH cast steel. M |
