Show BURGLARS IN II HOME USE CHLOROFORM ON II Ml Salt Lake, Jan. 19. Eric Kingsbury, 25 years of age, son of President J. T. Kingsbury of the University of Utah, vas bound and chloroformed late last night when two men entered tho family fam-ily residence at 222 South Twelfth East street and ransacked the house. Trofessor and Mrs. Kingsbury wero In Ogden. Tho house was not occupied occu-pied except by the son, who is a chronic invalid. The men crept aiound the house and cut a hole In a back screen door. Forcing tho lock, they entered the dining room through tho kitchen and pantry. In spite of his lack of strength, the son struggled with tho powerful men. One of them held him from behind while tho other pressed a drug-saturated handkerchief to his face until the fumes overcame him and he sank to tho floor unconscious. When ho recovered consciousness tho contents of the buffet in the dining din-ing room were scattered about the floor and pieces of furniture were upset. up-set. Mr. Kingsbury was still In a state of coma as a result of tho drug when President Kingsbury roturned shortly short-ly after 11 o'clock. Ho called tho police. Detectives James E. Woodward and J. A. Egbert responded to tho call. Tho men, Mr. Kingsbury declared, must have gono while ho was deeply under tho Influence of the drug. A thorough Investigation of the grounds failed to show any tracks, but it is possible N,hat they were covered cov-ered by the heavy snow that did not cease falling until late A strong odor of chloroform was noticeable no-ticeable when the officers entered the house. Mr. Kingsbury's clothes had been partially torn from his body. While tho drawers of the dining loom buffet had been ransacked, It was believed that nothing had been taken until Mrs. Kingsbury arrived, a few moments after her busband, and found that a pair of pearl opera glasses glass-es that had been encased In a blue plush bag were missing. Owing to the time elapsing between the robbery and the time that the police po-lice were Informed, the officers are working under a handicap In trailing the men. Mr. Kingsbury could give no accurate accu-rate description of his assailants. |
