Members of the Cedar High School slate championship basket hall team are serving as honorary chairman of the Kike- Hike fund raising program slated this week for Retarded Individuals. Residents of the area are invited to participate. Hike-Bike project to solicit funds for area retarded citizens The Double-A Basketball Champions, The Cedar Kedmen have been named Honorary Chairmen of the 1975 Hike-Bike for Retarded Citizens, it was announced last week by Dennis Doty, Activity Chariman of the Association for Retarded Citizens. On April 12 residents of Cedar City and surrounding communities com-munities will have the opportunity op-portunity to take part in this worthwhile event. The Kedmen hope that everyone who can will join them in the "Hike-Bike" either as participants or sponsors. spon-sors. The Hike-Bike campaign calls on volunteers to either "hike" or "bike" for retarded citizens over a measured course. Businesses and individuals are asked to pledge so much per mile for each mile walked or ridden by participants. par-ticipants. Hikers and bikers will begin at 9 a.m. on the morning of April 12 from Cedar City's Park and follow the 10 mile route indicated on the accompanying map. The length and-or time of travel will depend entirely on the strength of the participant and each will be trying to cover as many miles as possible. The more miles traveled the more money available for the development of a realistic recreation program for the handicapped children of our community. A portion of the funds made available through this activity will go towards participation of these children in the upcoming Special Olympics in Salt. Lake City. Success of the "Hike-Bike for the Handicapped" project in our area is dependent upon the response recieved from the people of our area. "Walks and bike rides have been very successful suc-cessful in other parts of the country," Mr. Doty stated, "and have raised thousands of dollars for the mentally retarded. I know we can count on the citizens of Cedar City to make the campaign cam-paign here an outstanding success."
