Show State ponders change in draft rules President Ford has signed into law legislation that changes the method by which young men, both citizens and aliens, fulfil their obligation to register under the provisions of the Military Selective Service Act. The termination of existing registration procedures became effective April 1. "Planning is under way for a new registration procedure, it is announced by Delmore E. John, Acting State Director. "The requirement to register is still in full force and effect, and only the method registration will be changed," he stated. John explained that planning centered around a once-a-year registration period of a few days in which young men born in a given year would be required to present themselves for registration. He indicated that several plans were under disucssion, and said. "When it is determined what method of registration will Ik- utilized, the public announcement of procedures will be made by proclamation as prescribed in the Military Selective Service Act. Announcement is expected toward the end of 1975." The change is a part of the ongoing studies to reduce the cost of maintaining a Selective Service System in support of the all-volunteer military establishment. establish-ment. John stressed. |
