Show BPW District confab held at Springdale By Cundacc L. Ewing In a setting of golden daffodils, plum, and apple blossoms, the Spring Conference of the Southern District of the Business & Professional Women's Clubs was held at the Driftwood Restaurant in Springdale, Utah, Saturday April 5. The Southern District comprises clubs in Beaver, Milford, Panguitch, Zion, St. George and Cedar City. District Director Eloise Bringhurst presided and introduced in-troduced the following State Officers who were in attendance: Mildred Richey, President, Katherine Putnam, president, elect, Madelaine Parker, vice president, Peggy Hanson, Arietta Elton, Arlene Huber, Greta Bauer, Mabel O'Brien, DeLone Peterson, and Alene Hanson. Her accompanist was Mrs. Allen. Mrs. Richey gave a brief address ad-dress of welcome and iaspiration followed by a report from each club president on the activities of her club during the year. The following "Women of the Year" were each one introduced by her club President, who gave an account of her community work and accomplishments and presented her with a corsage: Pearl Thompson, Beaver, Rea Dodde, Panguitch, Mildred Jensen, Richfield, Sabra Foremaster, St. George. Leta Cowley, Cedar Club's "Woman of the Year" was unable to be present because of illness in her family, Candaee Ewing, who spoke in her behalf, was honoured with a 'corsage. Merna Wadsworth of Hurricane, sang beautifully "Getting To Know You" and "I could have Danced all Night". Three young women who have been chosen "Career Girls" to represent their clubs were present: Joanne Beeson, Beaver, Marilyn Waters, Richfield, and Merna Wadsworth, Zion. Each one gave a delightful account of her activities and philosophies. Merna Wadsworth was chosen to represent the Southern District at the State Convention. Katherine Putnam, president elect of the State Federation, installed the following District Officers for the coming year with an impressive ceremony. They are: Mary Wiseman, District Director; Beatrice Oxley, Vice Director, and Patricia Rimpaw, secretary-treasurer; all from Milford. President Naomi Harrison of the Cedar City Business & Professional Women's Club was present, accompanied by thirteen thir-teen of her club members. |
