Show Rotary principles direct organization efforts By Smoot Sea man Fifty years ago this month the first stops were being taken to organize the Rotary Club in Cedar City. Through the planning plan-ning of several of our prominent business men the first Rotary meeting was held May 28, 1925. They received their charter on June 10, 1925 with twenty-one charter members. During this 50 years many worthwhile projects and contributions con-tributions have been made to this area by Rotary and its members. As recognized leaders of their businesses and professions in their communities, Rotarians command respect of their fellow citizens. For it is here that lies the strength and prestige of Rotary, the source of its man-building, man-building, community-building, and world-building power. Their voices will be listened to, their words heeded. Ideas have lifted empires from their foundations. The Rotary club is the forge of ideas, where ideas are born, created and shaped. Kipling wrote "And never the twain shall meet." This is not so in Rotary. For in Rotary clubs around the world, men of many nationalities, religions and political creeds, historical and cultural backgrounds come together for a weekly meeting. Fellowship is generated to carry around the world. This inspires men to translate the Rotary principle of "Service Above Self"; Service into positive and worthwhile action. This is where the prestige of Rotary lies. Rotary is the source of man-building, man-building, community-building and world-building powers. This is where the true spirit of Rotary is reflected and given expression. ex-pression. Service means many different things to different people. There may be a Scout Fund to raise, a crippled child to help, juvenile delinquents may be saved for a better life, a park to be built or business ethics to be improved, or an international problem to be solved. In our community, as in every community, the approach is about the same. "He profits most who serves the best. " So it is with the Cedar City Rotary Club and its members. We invite you to participate with us in commemorating com-memorating fifty years of Rotary in Cedar City. |
