Irrigation interests throughout i Iron County have appealed to the I Utah State Public Service I, Commission for an additional hearing on the proposed rate ; increase requested by California ' Pacific Utilities Co. j The Commission, has ap- i parently granted the additional hearing but the specific date was not established at this writing, i Initially it was set for April 18, later moved to April 30. However, efforts were being i made to attempt to reach a j compromise date somewhere in between. Specific date and time will be announced later. Initially the Utility Company i had petitioned the commission for a rate increase to take effect April 1. At the hearing held in Cedar City March 20, several requests for additional time was made to the commission for the purpose of preparing material opposing the requested increase. Three irrigation interests including those of Parowan Valley, Cedar Valley and the Enterprise area served by California Pacific, have joined together in a presentation that is expected to request the commission com-mission to consider another method of passing on the increased in-creased cost of power purchase by the company, Initially the company proposed that the additional cost of power would be passed on a mill basis imposed on the consumer on a straight increase based on power used. The irrigation companies are proposing that the increase should be passed on a percentage basis that would mean an approximate ap-proximate 12 percent increase based on the first increase request by California Power, and an additional 7.4 percent should the increase to Utah Power and granted by the Federal government. govern-ment.
