Show Petrified Forest facilities opened or just for family reunions or get togethers. Reservations for the group use area are required through the Ranger-m-charge, Escalante Petrified Forest State Reserve, PO Box 350, Escalante, Utah 84726. Also open to public use is the sewage dump station and water filler tower near the entrance gate to the park. The developed area of the park is adjacent to Widehollow Reservoir, just 1 mile west of- Escalante, Utah. One-half mile off state highway 12. Planning of nature trails ' to help people see and understand un-derstand the petrified wood phenomonon, environment and previous Indian habitation is now underway with trail construction planned for this fall and next spring. The Utah Division of Parks and Recreatin would like to extend an invitation to all area residences and visitors to visit the Escalante area and use the new facilities. "' Facilities constructed under the first phase of development at the Escalante Petrified Forest State Reserve are now open to the public. The facilities include a 22 site campground, cam-pground, complete with concrete table pads, fire grills, trash cans and water posts. Also in the campground are totally modern restroom facilities with showers. The restrooms are constructed with access and facility alterations to accomodate wheelchairs for the han- , dicapped. The camping fee of $2.00 per vehicle per night is required. Camping is restricted to the campground cam-pground area. Fire wood is provided for campers at entrance to campground. Also open is the group use area which consists of eight tables, two double fire grills and parking for 30 to 40 vehicles. The use of the group area is available for larger picnics and outings", for any church, civic or social organization |
