Show Courthouse Players Open July 6th Pioneer Courthouse Players Repertory Theatre Company, which performs in the historic Old Washington County Courthouse, will open its third summer season on July 6, with a performance of a hilarious musical-melodrama, musical-melodrama, "Jenny, the Mail Order Bride". The choice of this play was influenced by the response of community theatregoers and tourists to the musical melodrama presented last year. "Jenny, The Mail Order Bride" is based on the historical instances of western men inviting eastern women to become their brides, after a correspondence correspon-dence through the mail. Jenny, played by Kathy Warner, comes to a western town in a stagecoach in which the villanious Alonzo T. Flicks, played by Jon Turner, also is a passenger. She reveals to Alonzo her destination and her plans to marry Lt. Ernest Straytontall, played by John Worthington. The usual melodramatic triangle is made appealingly fresh by the musical score, the comedy, and the characterization. charac-terization. Following the opening, on Thursday, July 7, the Players will present two one-act melodramas, guaranteed to create a laugh filled and happy evening, "The Purloined Pearls" and "He Lured Her to the Primrose Path." The third play in the repertoire of the Company is the classic comedy set in the late nineteenth century "Charley's Aunt." All three offerings in the 1977 season shouldp provide a happy variety for summer theatre patrons, as they continue in rotation throughout July and August. Tickets for individual performances and Family Tickets are available at the Old Washington County Courthouse, or patrons may telephone the St. George chamber of Commerce, 673-3671, 673-3671, for reservations or ticket information. |
