Show f CRIME A Stoppers J Questions and answers about police activity and law enforcement en-forcement in southern Utah, by Dan Harris, Deputy Sheriff of Iron County. . Q. Who is responsibile for investigating vandalism at my cabin on Cedar Mountain? Someone broke all my windows. A. Crimes occuring within a city should be reported to the Police or Marshall's office for that municipality. Occurances in the unincorporated areas of the county should be reported to the Sheriff. Traffic accidents should be reported to the Utah Highway Patrol. When unsure which jurisdiction or agency is responsible, call 586-9445 and the radio dispatcher will contact the appropriate ap-propriate authority. I heard on the news that Sheriff Schoppmann and Chief Bolton have been charged with sexually assaulting a prisoner. What is being done about this? I received this question from several sources and I believe it is based upon the misinterpretation of a news report aired recently on a Salt Lake City Television station. FIRST: Neither Sheriff Schoppmann nor Chief Bolton have been charged, accused or even suspected of any assault. The case involves accusations made by one former prisoner of the City-County Jail against another former prisoner. SECOND: Sheriff Schoppmann and Chief Bolton are only named in the suit because the jail is under their direction. The practices of Jail Administration are in question in this case, not the integrity of either the Sheriff or the Chief of Police. THIRD: It would be improper for me to go into detail about this case until it has been before the courts, but suffice it to say that any information regarding the Sheriff or Chief of Police having assaulted anyone in this case is false and unfounded. Several months ago I received a traffic citation which I forgot to appear in court on. If I go in now, will I be arrested? There may be some penalty, usually a fine, for failure to appear on a traffic citation. This rests w ithin the descretion of the Judge of the Court. However, you should not delay your appearance any longer, or you may be served with a warrant for your arrest.
