Locals named to state posts i j t f: jr.. J o As he opened the special legislative session Tuesday; Gov. Scott Matheson also sent a bulky list of appointments to the Utah Senate for confirmation, with a number of local people nominated for various positions. Most notably, Mary Lunt, 160 McArthur Ave, Cedar City, was appointed ap-pointed by the governor to replace the retiring Warren Bulloch as a member of the State Board of Regents. Bulloch, 83, was the oldest of the regents, serving more than 20 years in education. He was appointed to the Coordinating Council on Higher Education in 1958 by Gov. George D. Clyde. Bulloch said he feels the Board of Regents has done a lot for education in Utah by unifying the nine colleges and universities under its jurisdiction. "It was a matter of leadership when the organization first got underway," he said. "Each institution had its own laws and rules and they were going all over the place. While the problems are still pretty much the same, we've come a long way in uniform accounting and bringing the schools together." Bulloch has also served as an Iron County Commissioner for 20 years, as president of the Cedar City Chamber of Commerce and is president of the State Bank of Southern Utah. He has been involved in livestock, farming and business. Changes were also made on the Southern Utah State College Institutional In-stitutional Council, as recommended by Matheson: Lucille Taylor, Spanish Fork, to replace David Bigler; Frank Petty, Cedar City, to replace Ellovd Marchant; Dale Zabriskie, Salt Lake City, and Jim R. Scarth, St. George, were reappointed. In other appointments, Harry Perry, Cedar City was named to the Geological and Mineral Survey Board; Wayne K. Hinton, Cedar City, was named to the Board of State History; Ray Juvenlin to the Board of Oil, Gas and Mining; Joseph Felix was retained on the Board of Parks and Recreation and Richard Leigh was appointed to the Board of Big Game Control. Robert Braithwaite was named to the Air Conservation Committee and Rodney Decker was appointed to the Executive Compensation Committee. MARY LUNT |
