Show Construction on pool underway r There will be swimming by next summer. That was assured Thursday Thur-sday when officials of Cedar City Corporation and Iron County School District meet to hold official groundbreaking ground-breaking ceremonies for a new indoor-outdoor swimming swim-ming pool complex to be constructed on the Junior High School Campus. The event was hailed by Mayor L. Kerry Jones, "as a landmark in cooperative effort between two units of government... It is the only way that we are going to be able to meet the needs of the people," he said. Singling out Arlo Larsen of the Cedar City Council, Mayor Jones cited his initiative for the development develop-ment of the joint project which officially began Thursday and is scheduled, by contract, to be completed in 350 calendar days. Jay Overson, president of the School Board remarked that "the day is long gone when individual units of government can battle for tax dollars and programs. We must cooperate and I extend my congratulations to those who invisioned this project and to the contractors con-tractors and architects who ultimately make the program feasible," he said. The facility is designed to provide year-long recreation activity for the area. It will not only provide a much needed recreation outlet but will also be utilized for instructional in-structional purposes and for therapeudic endeavors as well. Designed into the facility are conveniences for the handicapped as well as complete swimming and diving facilities for the entire area. |
