Show Elks could win National LL Title tonight Elks has all but wrapped up the 1977 title in the Cedar City National Little League. With just one game remaining-Elks vs. Lions--to be played this evening, the worst Elks could do would be to tie. They would have to lose to Lions to drop into a tie with Arctic Circle and possibly Jaycees. Standings going into this week's action are as follows : Elks 11 4 Arctic Circle 9 5 Jaycees 8 5 Ron's 7 7 Lions 4 9 Town & Country 3 12 Elks picked up a pair of victories in last week's action, they downed Ron's Sporting Goods 9-2 and demolished Lions in Friday's action 17-1. On the mound for the victory over Ron's was K. C. Jones. Suffering the loss was Lundberg. In that contest Jones gave up only one hit, a single in the second inning. Elks got on the boards early i with three runs on three hits in the first inning including a two run homer by Val Armstrong. It was the sixth when Ron's scored two without benefit of a hit. Leigh was on the mound for Elks in their win over Lions. Elks really had a big third inning with 11 runs on four hits. Fifteen batters came to the plate in the frame. Elks had only one extra base hit, a double by Davis. Lions were limited to just three hits by Leigh. On the mound for Lions were Wilden and Peterson. Jaycees picked up a big win in the week as they down Arctic Circle by a score of 8-5. 8-5. Embley and Edwards were on the mound for the win. Bonn and Soderquist hurled for Arctic. Both teams scored four runs in the first inning and both picked up a run in the second to knot the score at 5-all. 5-all. The tie was broken in the fourth on a home run by Embley and two insurance runs were added in the fifth. Ron's Sporting Goods was on top of a 11-7 victory over Town & Country 11-7. On the mound for Rons was Watson and Davis with Smith and Rollo seeing mound action for T & VC. Ron's had a big fifth inning pushing in 7 runs on five hits. They collected five doubles in the contest. T & C had two. In a real marathon Jaycees defeated Lions 30- 18. Perkins, Mlllett and Embley were on the mound for Jaycees. Hinton, Sayers, Morris and Peterson saw action for Lions. Jaycees had only two extra base hits, doubles by Zundell and Briggs. Walks were a big factor with a total of 48 given up in the game. Jaycees had 27 walks and Lions had 21. In other action Friday night it was Arctic Circle with an 1 1-8 win over Town & Country. Soderquist and Black were on the mound for the win. Petty and Adnerson saw action for T & C. Arctic took an early lead with 7 runs on three hits in the second inning. Eleven batters came to the plate. In the third Arctic pushed in four runs on two hits including in-cluding a double by Stankoski. T & C had eight hits, all singles. |
