Show te Press , , 0mmiml. i Parade came and went, despite rain clouds ) ; came and ( went, despite V i ram clouds Despite an early morning rain hundreds turned out Monday morning for the annual Independence Day parade and activities at the Cedar City Park. The cloud cover kept the temperatures tem-peratures down for the annual celebration, and sent many of the residents and visitors scurring for light jackets and wraps. But despite the weather, a large crowd was on hand for the miniature parade, sponsored by the Lady Lions and the park concessions and events and the climatic fireworks display Monday evening sponsored by the Lions Club. Leading the parade was the youth royalty consisting of Richard Park and Debra Sue Neilson and their attendants Alan W. Dunaway and Becky Robinson. Cash awards were given for float entries and capturing top honors was the float entered by Steven's Company entitled "Puppets in the Park." Second place went to the North East Furniture with their float entitled "Let's Go Fly a Kite, and third place honors went to Christensen's with an entry entitled "Summertime, Campting Out Time." Special tribute was paid to Sharon Bradshaw, president of the Lady Lions who passed away this past week. Of significance was the contribution made in behalf of Mrs. Bradshaw, and her mother-in-law, lone Bradshaw, who were in charge of the Miniature Parade events. Two families - not associated with the Lions Club -- came to the rescue of the organization to assist with float making and walked off with special honors. Lee and Dixie Morrell and family volunteered to assist with the product and the float on which they worked was that entered by Steven's Company to capture first place. The other family also assisting as a special tribute to Mrs. Bradshaw were Marian and Reed Esplin and their family. They made the float entered by Christensen's which captured third place honors in the parade. " V r, CAb iVri'pn1 Wit VARIED Floats, tricycle, bicycles, baloont. candy, concessions, danking ponds, hot dogs and hamburgers - topped off with a fireworkds display - were the order of the day at Cedar City's Independence In-dependence Day celebration. |
