Show Parowan falters to WestZion in Semifinals PAROWAN - A creditable performance in the Utah District One tournament concluded the season this week for the Parowan Little League tournament team. Parowan won its first two games in the District One tournament held in Cedar City before being whipped, 13-1, by West Zion in the semifinals. West Zion went on to defeat Tri-City (Kanab, Fredonia, Orderville) for the tournament championship. In the first round, Parowan outscored Lincoln County, 14-3, to advance in the winners bracket. Parowan then gained a measure of revenge in the second round with a 15-8 win over Milford. Last year Milford eliminated Parowan, 12-11, on a last-half-of-the-last-inning two-out two-out grand slam home run. The victory over Milford set up the semifinal battle with West Zion. Parowan came back in the second with two runs, one by Brady Smith and one by Kelly Orton. Both were driven in on a Travis Griffiths double. Parowan then took the lead for keeps in the third after Robbie Stevens walked and Chris Robb hit a home run to left center field. Mike Robinson scored Parowan's lone run in the fourth inning after a single and two stolen bases. Then Parowan erupted for nine runs in the fifth. In that inning, home runs were hit by Stevens (grand slam), and Dan Evans. Additional runs were scored by Doug Rogerson, Robb, Evans, Smith, and Orton. Robbie Stevens went all the way on the mound, giving up only five hits. The Milford game was tied, 6-6, going into the sixth (final) inning. Then Parowan went on a hitting tear and ran up nine runs in the first half of the sixth. Milford came back with two runs, but that wasn't enough. Travis Griffiths, in relief of Kelly Orton, picked up the pitching victory. Parowan got single runs in the first (Griffiths), and second (Alan Burton) innings. in-nings. They added two more (Robinson and Rogerson) in the third and a single run-on Misty Bentley's home run-in run-in the fourth. Dan Evans scored in the fifth to set up the climatic sixth. In the sixth Griffiths doubled and scored, Robinson singled and scored, Rogerson singled and scored, Stevens hit his second home run of the tournament, Evans walked and scored, Burton singled and scored, Orton singled and scored, Bentley singled and scored, and Griffiths hit his second '.'.double of the inning and scored. Parowan-which picked up 18 hits in each of the first two games-had trouble with West Zion pitching and fielding. They could manage only five hits, including two each by Kelly Orton and Chris Robb. Robbie Stevens picked up the only other hit. Robb accounted for the only Parowan run with a second inning home run, his second of the tournament. Orton led off the third inning with a triple, but a strikeout and two ground outs left him stranded. He also doubled in the fifth. . Robbie Stevens pitched five innings, and Robb pitched the sixth.
