About 630 Boy Scouts and their leaders from four Councils in Utah left this week for tours of the East and the 9th National Scout Jamboree. The Jamboree itself, involving 28,000 Scouts and Leaders from throughout the nation and some foreign countries, doesn't begin until Aug. 3. Before the scouting extravaganza ex-travaganza begins and after it concludes Aug. 9 at Moraine State Park, Pa., most of the Utahns will tour historic and religious sities in Washington, D. C, Philadelphia, Valley Forge, New York state and other areas. The Utah National Parks Council contingent, directed by Robert L. Frazier, Springville, and C. R. Lmax, Nephi, will leave July 29 at 6 a.m. Local boys representing represen-ting Cedar City will be David Norton of Troop 370, son of Mr. and Mrs. David Norton and Greg Jensen of Troop 370, son of Mr. and Mrs. Morgan S. Jensen. The council along with others in Utah, has been busy in recent weeks preparing gate ways for camp entrances, painting, patrol boxes and sewing on patches. The jamboree, to be attended at-tended by Japanese and other international Scouts, ;will include a "cultural ,exchange", a visit from Bruce Jenner, U. S. Gold Medal winner in the TO ATTEND JAMBOREE. Scheduled to participate in the National Scout Jamboree to be held at Moraine State Park, Pa., are Cedar City scouts, Greg Jensen, left and David Norton. Both are members of Troop 370. Decathlon, and his wife, Chrystie, according to Milton E. Kinman, the Salt Lake Council's field service director. President Extra Taft Benson of the Council of the Twelver of the LDS Church, and Marion D. Hanks of the Presidency of the First Quorum of the Seventy, will attend the Jamboree. |
