Show ROLLO-GLYPHICS By Klien Rollo the hat should go to Harold Shirley, ball park manager for Cedar City, and his crew. Not only did they have three fields to maintain, prepare between each of those 32 games, but they also had the added problem of rain that plagued the tournaments throughout. Without their efforts - far beyond what would normally be expected - the tournaments could not have been completed. So to you Harold and your crew consisting of Jim Bayly, Warren Hatch, Charles Judd and Robert Morris, all of us are especially grateful. Saturday in the Big League tournament other Cedar City crews pitched in and gave their aid. As I said we just can't name everyone - but to everyne who assisted in any way - let it be known that your efforts were appreciated. ap-preciated. Not only by the community, but by the many visitors from the southern ... Utah area who came here to see their teams perform. Thanks to all of you. This week I have to take my hat off to the many, many, many people who were responsible for the three levels of Little League Tournament action conducted con-ducted in Cedar City Tuesday through Saturday evening and on through into Monday. Literally hundreds of people of the community were responsible for a most successful series of tournament tour-nament activities including a 17-team Little League tournament (for boys and girls 11 and 12) a four team, double elimination Senior Little League Tournament (boys 13, 14, and 15) and a two-team Big League tourney for boys 16, 17, and 18. - In all there was a total of 32 games played in Cedar City during tournament activity, a total of 23 teams. A total of 374 boys and their managing personnel were involved. Weather was a factor in the tournament activities and resulted in some delays but only one postponement. The postponement came Saturday when the championship cham-pionship game of the Little League tournament had to be cancelled and rescheduled for Monday afternoon. As I said, literally hundreds hun-dreds of people were responsible for the tournament tour-nament activities, and they all deserve a pat on the back. It's really a little out of order to use names because so many people were involved, in-volved, but those directly responsible should be given special credit. The most difficult task was the Little League tournament where a total of 17 teams were involved. The credit for the success of this event goes to Pet Paris and Jeff Cowan - co-chairmen of the tournament, who were responsible for its total organization. In the Senior Little League tournament it was Jack Carter who served as tournament director and for the Big League, Wayne Mifflin was in charge. There were so many aspects of the total program that it's hard to give everyone credit. Take the concession stand operated in behalf of the Little League through all levels of tournament tour-nament play, by volunteer mothers. In charge of concession were Grace Melling and a committee consisting of Edie Esplin, Janet Lundgren, Ora Bohn and Maydene Petty, but many, many other mothers and volunteers gave of their time to keep the refreshments refresh-ments coming. Housing, a responsibility that is no small task when that many visiting teams are involved, was another mammoth task and to those who willingly took young ballplayers into their homes we extend another vote of thanks. Mrs. JoAnn Sawyers was in charge of this for the Little League. Then there's the officials. Officials for 32 games, with no less than three and in most instances four working evry game. Again we extend ex-tend our thanks to those who gave of their time to help in this important part of the organization. For the Little League it was Dick Hobbs who lined up and assigned the officials. Jack Carter assumed the responsibility of organizing the officials for the Senior League and Wayne Mifflin handled the Big League. But those who were actually on the field assisting deserve a tip of the hat for their service. Then there's the scorekeepers. In the Little League again it was the biggest task, but they had two for every game at every level of tournament play. In the Little League the scorers were organized under the direction of Nina Gibson with Ora Boyn, Geri Anderson, An-derson, Louise Jones, Rowena Evans, Grace Melling, Edie Esplin and Marion Whitney all assisting. In the Big League it was Ann Judd, Louise Jones, and Susan Morris who assisted. In the Senior League the scorers were: Evelyn Carter, Maureen Robb, Judy Gubler, Emily Rhoades and Darlene Larson.
