Show Finlavson, Richer and Adams to direct Festival plays 1940. Returning from six years' in the service, Mr. Finlayson became be-came first assistant to the Buolting Brothers on their film "Journey Together," star-ring star-ring Edward G. Robinson, Rex Harrison, and Richard Atten-borough. Atten-borough. Then followed sea sons directing repertory including in-cluding two years with the J. Arthur Rank Company, and four years at the Oxford Playhouse, Play-house, Birmingham Repertory, and the Glasgow Citizens. During Dur-ing this time he also taught at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, the Rose Bru- ford School, and for four years at the summer school of Drama Dra-ma at St. Andrews University in Scotland. In 1956, Mr. Finlayson began be-gan a five year affiliation with the Brooke Theatre in Johannesburg as artistic director. di-rector. He came to America in Michael Finlayson, a former affiliate of the Shakespearean Memorial Theatre at Stratford-upon-Avon, will direct "The Winter's Tale," premiering on July 15 as a newcomer in the trio of plays featured in the 1972 repertoire of the Utah Shakespearean Festival. Mr. Finlayson joins directors Richard Filcher, an acting veteran vet-eran of the 1971 Festival season, sea-son, and Fred C. Adams, founding producer of the annual an-nual event. Mr. Filcher is preparing pre-paring "Comedy of Errors" for the Festival opening on July 13. Prof. Adams ha3 "King Lear" in rehearsal for the second night opening on July 14. Both have been performed per-formed previously at the Festival. Fest-ival. The three directors combine talents to guide the eleventh annual season of the Utah cultural event. The Festival opening this year will also celebrate the dedication of the new Shakespearean Theatre, Thea-tre, built last year on the campus of Southern Utah State College. Mr. Finlayson was born and educated in Scotland, graduating gradu-ating in Classics. He later studied for two years at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. He was award ed a prize of a season's contract con-tract with the Shakespearean Memorial Theatre, antf subsequently sub-sequently appeared in London in a number of play, continuing contin-uing ftudy under Michel St. Denis and George Devine. He directed his own repertory reper-tory company for a year, and among other plays produced "As You Like If before Joining Join-ing the Royal Air Force in 1968 to work at Penn State University. Un-iversity. In 1970 he became a : member of the Department of Theatre Arts on the Stony Brook campus of State University Uni-versity of New York and is continuing his work there, While in this country he has directed "Ring Around the Moon," "Love's Labours lost," a musical version of "The . Drunkard," "As You Like It," "After the Rain" and "The Lady's Not For Burning.'' Mr. Filcher performed last year in USF productions of "King Henry IV, Part I," "Tarn-ing "Tarn-ing of the Shrew," and "The Tempest." He received a B. A. from the University of Missouri Mis-souri and studied at the University Uni-versity of Michigan under the Professional Theatre Fellowship Fellow-ship Program. He worked with the APA-Phoenix Company at Ann Arbor, McCarter Theatre, Great Lakes Shakespeare Company, and Missouri Repertory Re-pertory Theatre. Previous directing di-recting experience includes shows at the U of Missouri and U of Michigan, as well as the American Theatre Institute In Aspen, Colo. In addition to his Shake- spearcan experience, Mr. Filcher Fil-cher has acted In numerous productions including "She Stoops to Conquer," "The Importance Im-portance of Being Ernest" "Ah Wilderness," and "R.V.R." Mr. Adams directed his first Festival productions in 1962 when he founded the new internationally in-ternationally known event with the presentation of Taming of the Shrew."
