Show Lions ready July Fourth celebration Independence Day Celebration Celebra-tion in Cedar City again this year will be sponsored by tht Cedar City Lions Club and a series of day-long activities have been planned for tin event. As in the past a Wakeui Salute will be heard at 6 a.m. to get families ready for the celebration which is deviset to provide a patriotic celebra tion with significance to the Independence of these United States. The parade, which is hand . led by the Lady Lions will begin be-gin at 9 a.m. and will include in addition to Royalty, anc" miniature floats, the Ceda) City High School Marching Band. Following the parade concessions con-cessions and games will be held on the Municipal Park. .Patriotic Program Also included will be a patriotic pat-riotic program featuring Craig Jones as the speaker and the Cedar Hiigh School Stage Band will provide music for the program. Jones is a political science instructor at Southern Utah State College. In the evening a gigantic i fireworks display will be presented pre-sented on the flood control dikes southeast of the city. The fireworks display will be presented by the Lions through the cooperative effort of the Cedar Cfty Volunteer Fire Department. To finance the fireworks the club is accepting donations for which club members will give the contributor an attractive at-tractive badge. In addition the club, each year, received large contributions from California-' California-' Pacific Utilities Co., Utah International In-ternational and Cedar City ' Corporation, to assist. Contributions are currently being solicited by club members. mem-bers. It was pointed out however, that the Independence Day , celebration is not sponsored primarily as a fund raising project but as a means of promoting pro-moting patriotism. Any surplus sur-plus funds that may be collected col-lected at concessions or through fire works donations will be used In other community commun-ity projects. Cooperative Effort ' The celebration takes the cooperative effort of all members mem-bers of the Cedar City Club, including members of the family. fam-ily. Willard Jones is serving as overall chairman of this year's celebration. Other chairmen chair-men include Gilbert Mitchell, building; Mario Stones, fireworks; fire-works; Bruce Osborne, food. Committee members include Fred Wright, Merrill Peterson, Dave Evans, Ken Benson and Ron Ashley. President of the Cedar City club is Reed Thompson. |
