Show County, state and federal agencies join! in cooperative fire protection force ! State and Federal Land Management Agencies and County Sheriffs have again joined into a cooperative fire protection force in Southwestern Southwest-ern Utah in preparation for the coming season of wildland fires. The group, made up ot Utah State Forester, National Park Service, Bureau of Land Management, Man-agement, Dixie National Forest, For-est, and County Sheriffs of six Southewestem Utah counties, have joined forces in an effort ef-fort to make the most efficient effi-cient use of manpower and equipment in the rapid attack at-tack and suppression of all wildland fires in the area, according ac-cording to Alvin F. Wright, Dixie National Forest Supervisor. Super-visor. This fire season may prove to be worse than normal due to the long dry spring follow ing a winter of excellent' moisture. Wright pointed out that a weather pattern such as this means an abundance of annual grass growth and early drying of the grass. This combination could easily contribute con-tribute to more serious fires between now and the usual August rainstorms. Wright added that another very important part of the fii control program, that of re-' porting fires to the land management man-agement agencies, is handled by the Utah Highway Patrol. The Patrol Dispatcher receives re-ceives initial fire reports from patrolmen, local people, and the traveling public and passes pas-ses these reports along to the fire control agencies. People spotting wildland fires are asked to contact the Highway ; Patrol or any of the Land j Management agencies. The cooperation of the fire control agencies, organizations, organiza-tions, and the general public has saved considerable time and money in the suppression of wildland fires in past years. Continued cooperation will contribute to an even more successful record in the future. |
