Show HAVE RIGHT TO COMPLAIN Since prior to the opening of Ihe fishing season or since the snow disappeared from the road from Parowan Par-owan to the Yankee Reservoir, we have been hearing hear-ing complaints about the condition of the road to that place, which is one of the better fishing spots in this area, which doesn't have too many of them. We know the road was damaged badly last summer sum-mer by floods and that very little was done to repair re-pair that damage at that time. In fact at that time we were prompted to call the road an "orphan." In other words, it has been passed from one govern-1 mcnt agency to another over the past years and now none seems to "do anything about it". On the week end this writer made a trip over the road, going to the Yankee via the first left hand canyon can-yon and back to town via the selond left hand canyon, j And we found the claims of the fishermen and others who travel the road to be mostly true. We feel that this is a black eye on the agency that is responsible for maintaining the road, and to the Iron County area, that, the road doesn't receive some attention. I The Yankee Reservoir, which is one of only a few places that could be fished on the opening day, and therefore drew heavily on opening week end of the season, drew many complaints from those traveling to the place because of the roughness and dust conditions condi-tions encountered. And a good share of those going there were out of state people, mostly from the southeastern Nevada area.. This in itself is very bad advertising. And the reservoir is a consistent producer pro-ducer of fine fishing throughout the season. We repeat that we feel it is a shame that the two roads leading to the reservoir are not improved by the government agency which has charge of it. This is especially true when a few days work on them with a patrol could do much to make them better to travel. In addition to the fishing, the two roads lead travelers trav-elers through two of the most beautiful canyons in southern Utah. We feel that representatives of the local chamber of commerce, Lions Club and Parowan City should meet with representatives of the Dixie Forest and urge that something be done to improve the above roads. |
