The convention attracted some 500 delegates from throughout the Intermountain West to Cedar City. The growing grow-ing organization have selected select-ed Las Vegas, Nev. for the 1970 convention site and in 1971 the group will move to Jefferson City, Oregon. One of the highlights of the national confab is the election of officers to serve for the following fol-lowing year. In the Saturday afternoon business session of the event Gail Gill, a member of the Salt Lake County Jeep Patrol, was named as national commander to succeed Bald-Win Bald-Win at the helm of the dedicated dedi-cated organization. Another Cedar City man and a member of the Iron County Sheriff's Jeep Patrol, George Connel, was elected as first j vice commander to serve during dur-ing the coming year. i A four-wheel Kaiser Jeep was won by a delegate from Arizona and a Chevy II, Jr. offered of-fered as a special prize went to a delegate from Great Falls, Mont. The convention was under the general direction of Commander Com-mander Baldwin. Events for the ladies were equally successful and were directed by a committee consisting con-sisting of Mrs. Baldwin, chair-man; chair-man; Mrs. Jean Kirkham and Mrs. Carol Blackner. Featured was a demonstration by Mrs. Vera Hatch, owner and opera-tor opera-tor of the Southern Utah Cos-motology Cos-motology College. Friday's major event for the ladies was a tea under the direction di-rection of Mrs. Marilee Con-nell Con-nell held at the BPOE Lodge. A luncheon served at the College Col-lege of Southern Utah little ballroom highlighted Saturday's Satur-day's special ladies events and was highlighted by vocal renditions by Christine Wint-errose Wint-errose and a presentation and fashion show of Shakespearean Shakespear-ean Festival costumes by Fred Adams and Phyllis Davis. Special door prize, a hand painted quilt by Mrs. Baldwin, was won by Jolene Walker of Idaho. |
