Jaycees take slim early lead Jaycees 4 0 1.000 Lions 3 1 .750 Elks 2 2 .500 Arctic Circle 1 3 .250 Jones Motor 0 4 .000 Jaycees maintained their lead in the National Little League race this past week, but it was not without difficulty. diffi-culty. They posted two victories victor-ies and both were won by a single point. Dominating the week, however, how-ever, were two marathon games with Arctic Circle picking pick-ing up their first win of the season with a smashing 36 to 2 win over winless Jones Motor. Mo-tor. Jones Motor was also on the losing end of a 27 to 9 game won by Elks. Jaycees Monday took a slightly firmer hold on first place with a 4-3 win over Elks Lodge. It was a see-saw battle that saw Elks jump out in front, Jaycees retaliated to take the lead and after three frames it was tied up at 3-all. Jaycees broke the tie and picked up the win with a score in the fourth frame. Mike Hair was the winning pitcher as he gave up only four hits in the contest. Three of those hits went to the losing pitcher, Bobby Piatt. Two of his hits were for doubles. Leading hitter hit-ter for Jaycees was John Berry with 3 hits in 3 times at bat. Last week Jaycees outlasted the Lions in a 10-9 victory with Kevin Averett taking the mound win. Mike Hair led the hitting for the victors with 3 for 4 including two doubles. Suffering the loss was Sage White who gave up six hits in the contest. Highlight of the 36-2 drubbing drub-bing by Arctic Circle over Jones Motor were two home runs belted by Jeff Jolley and the mound work of Steve Jen-son Jen-son and Fred Wright. Jeff Hunter went all the way for the Elks victory 27-9 over Jones Motor. Jeff Paddock collected col-lected 5 for 6 at the plate including in-cluding two doubles to lead the hitting. Two good stickers up for Jones Motor but it was not enough. Keven Jones had 3 for 4 including two doubles and Brad Thompson also had 3 for 4. |
