Bill Baker, left, and Elma Lynn ' Sandberg, were the recipients of the "Pestalozzi" award presented each year to outstanding education students at Southern Utah State College. Both graduated grad-uated this spring in exercises at the school. C. S. U. students win education awards The Pestalozzi awards given annually by College of Southern South-ern Utah School of Education to outstanding education majors ma-jors were received this year by Elma Lynn Sandberg, Cedar City, and Bill Baker, Beaver. Both students received bachelor bache-lor of science degrees and teaching certifiates at CSU Commencement exercises held May 28. Miss Sandberg is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Sandberg. Sand-berg. She has served as president presi-dent of the CSU Student Education Edu-cation Association and is a member of Phi Alpha Beta sorority. sor-ority. She has been an honor roll student for her four years at CSU. She will be married to Vernile Prince of New Harmony Har-mony on June 14. She will teach in elementary education in the Provo area while her husband attends Brigham Young University. Mr. Baker, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Jess Baker, Beaver, received re-ceived his award for his work in secondary education. While at CSU he has served as student stu-dent body president, LDSSA president, Senior Class senator, sena-tor, executive secretary of publications pub-lications and public relations, and head of the of the Appropriations Appro-priations Committee. He plans ot work toward a master's degree de-gree at BYU next year on a graduate- fellowship. He is married to the former Jeannie Walker of Kamas. They have a daughter, Jill, 22-months of age. The Pestalozzi award was initiated at CSU two years ago in honor of Johannes Pestalozzi, Pes-talozzi, noted Swiss educator. |
