Redmen Tennis Team Off to Fast Start In Region Competition Tennis at Cedar High School has gotten off to a fast start this year and promises to continue throughout the spring season. The Redmen squad opened the season with a convincing victory over Hurricane High School on the Cedar courts, then took top team honors at the Dixie Invitational Invi-tational meet staged at St. George Saturday. Against the Tigers the results were as follows: Alan Broadbent, Cedar, over Merlin G iff ore! (II), 3-4, 6-0. Neuman Duncan, (C) over Joe Campbell (II), 6-0, 6 3. Stan Parry (C) over Monte Lewis (H), 6-0, 6-0. Terry Woolf and Paul Roberts Ro-berts (C) over Devin Ruesch and Ralph Dickman (II), 6-1, '7-5. reg Cloward and Kim Humphrey Hum-phrey (C) over Mack J. Hall and Kenneth LeFevre (II), 6-3, 6-1. At St. George Alan Broadbent walked off with first place honors hon-ors in the singles competition with Newman Duncan finishing third and Stan Parry in sixth. In doubles competition the .'earn of Terry Woolf and Paul Roberts advanced to the finals before losing to Dixie High School. They finished second giving giv-ing the Redmen first place overall over-all in the competition. Other members of the Cedar High squad included Kim Humphrey, Hum-phrey, Greg Cloward, Bob Braith-waite Braith-waite and Raymond Gardner. Tuesday the squad traveled to St. George for a dual meet with Dixie High School. A total of 18 matches are slated for the net hopefuls this season under the direction of Jack Saw-years. |
