Show Broncos Take Southern ICAC Lead College of Southern Utah Broncos erupted into the lead of the southern division of the In-termountain In-termountain Collegiate Athletic Conference race Saturday after-noon after-noon with a marathon win over the Carbon Eagles, 20 to 14. Tha game lasted for three and one-half one-half hours. I Friday the Broncos had defeated Carbon in a 10 to 8 contest and both games proved to be hitting marathons with extra bases the rule rather than the exception. Jim Porter, strong righthander righthand-er for the Broncos, was credited with both wins. Porter started the game Friday Fri-day and allowed the Eagles nine hits while his team mates were compiling 12 with 10 runs to back him up. The Broncos pounded pound-ed two pitchers off the mound Friday and took the Initiative In the second Inning with five runs crossing the plate. Porter went all the way for the Broncos. Nard Sorensen of the Broncos knocked a home run for the them In the sixth inning with one man on to Ice the game for Coach Cleo Petty. Bug Jullano. first baseman for the Eagles, homered for the visitors, hitting one Into ih.i Little League park from the right side of the plate. Porter came to the rescue of Gerald Oldroyd In Saturday Afternoon's Af-ternoon's game, relieving him after af-ter four Innings of mound duty. Carbon pounded out eight hits and six runs In the first frame and added three tn the third and four in the fourth to take a 13 to 7 lead. Porter showed excellent excel-lent form In the remaining five innings of play, holding the Eagles Ea-gles to a single run in the fifth inning to end their scoring at 14 runs. Meanwhile, the Broncos continued contin-ued their torrid pace at the plate pushing over three runs In three of the remaining Innings and one in the other to score the 20 to 14 win. The Broncos collected 21 hits with eight of them for extra bases. Gerald Hawley led the hitting for the Broncos with four in five trips. He was follow, ed closely by Lon Jackson who had four hits in six trips to the plate. Haddis of the Eagles slugged slug-ged for 1.000 to top all hitters, however, with five in as many trips to the plate.
