Show i Spring Art Exhibit to Close Sunday With A Lecture by Alvin L. Gittins The 17th annual Cedar City Spring Art Exhibit will close Sunday evening after having been open to the public pub-lic each day for the past two weeks. The exhibit, which has attracted large numbers of visitors, has been proclaimed one of the finest in the state this year, and has drawn much favorable comment from visitors from many sections of the country. Many club groups, men and women, have visited the exhibit in addition addi-tion to large numbers of individuals, including local residents, resi-dents, people from surrounding communities and travelers who have been oassln? through this area during the period the exhibit ha been open. Even more encouraging than this, however, Is the interest young people from elementary grade level through college have shown in the exhibit. The closing feature of the exhibit ex-hibit will be a discussion at a public meeting Sunday afternoon to be given by Alvln L. Gittins, chairman of the art department, University of Utah. The meeting will open at the college field-house field-house at 4 p. m. Sunday. Mr. Git. tins, who has exhibited here for a number of years, and whos work has attracted much attention, atten-tion, will undoubtedly have a most Interesting message for art lovers of southern Utah. Everyone Every-one Is Invited to attend. Last Sunday Con an E. Mathews, Math-ews, chairman of the art department depart-ment Brigham Young University, was the guest speaker at a meeting. meet-ing. He gave a most Interesting, address before a large crowd gathered for the occasion. Following Fol-lowing his talk he spent some time visiting the patrons and discussing the various paintings and answering questions. Every painting In the exhibit is offered for aale, and there are many that are well suited for hanging In homes, as well as Ideal works for school and other Institution walls. Several paintings paint-ings have already been purchased purchas-ed by local residents, and number of others are studying various paintings hoping to make a final selection before the exhibit comes to a close. The committee in charge of the exhibit is hopeful that many paintings will be purchased. This sale of paintings is one of the most Important factors In attracting at-tracting outstanding artijt to the annual exhibit here. But, even more Important Is the cultural cul-tural Influence fine art can have on the young people of the community com-munity when the paintings are hung in the halls and rooms of the various school?, and the pleasure such art brings to a family when the paintings grace the walls of a home.
