Show Council Meeting Conducted To Consider TV At a special meeting of the Parowan City Council last Monday Mon-day night a delegation consisting consist-ing of Heber Gurr and S. M. Clark, Parowan. and Herbert Topham, Paragonah, waited on the council with a request for financial and other aid In trying to develop television for the Parowan Par-owan Valley area. Mr. Gurr, as spokesman for the group, stated that they had located a spot on Beaver Ridge north of Parowan where the TV signal could be picked up from what is known as the Gillins Hill North of Beaver where residents resi-dents of that city were develop, ing a station which would pick up three channels, 2, 4 and 5 out of the Salt Lake area. The spot on Beaver Ridge where the signal comes in is approximately ap-proximately one mile west of the place where Highway 91 goes over the ridge. Mr. Gurr stated that he had filed on a quarter section there to hold the location, but would hold It only for the time being. If the project develops to where it Is an Important Im-portant site, he will turn It over to the city or Iron County. The delegation asked for an appropriation from the Parowan City recreation fund for use In procuring Amplifiers and antennas anten-nas for the development of a relay station from the hill north or Beaver. They also asked the clty to furnish poles and wire to run a power line from the contemplated relay station to the power line which runs over the Beaver Ridge to connect the Tel-lurlde Tel-lurlde and Southern Utah Power companies together, a distance 1 V. miles. Mr. Gurr stated that they had been experimenting with the signal sig-nal for several days and felt that the experiments should go on to try to develop TV for the Parowan Paro-wan area and that this help was needed to continue the experiments. experi-ments. It was suggested that they contact Iron County for the financial help, but Commissioner Commission-er Jess Guymon, who vv In at-tendance at-tendance at the meeting, stated that the county did not have funds for this purpose. He stated that he felt that if Parowan City advanced the money needed, and the project proved to be a success, suc-cess, that Parowan City could be reimbursed by the county so as not to curtail the planned recreation recre-ation program planned by the city for this year. On this supposition, the ciiyj council granted the request forj the $500 and for the poles and wire to build the neecssary now-er now-er line. The group expressed a desire to cooperate with any other organization or-ganization in procuring television televis-ion for the Iron County area and stated that If this project didn't ; prove out they would cooperate I in any other way that would be I success il in getting that form oi .recreation available to the area. |
