Show By Ken Jonas "Sand, wind, and flying targets," tar-gets," was the theme for the annual an-nual attempt by members of the Hqs. Battery to qualify in small arms. Last Sunday about one third of the unit went to St. George for this annual event. Most of us got along all right, that Is, if you like to eat mud with your food for a week. The convoy left the Armory at about 9:30 Sunday morning and arrived .In St. George at about 11 where we were Instructed Instruct-ed for the final time before our attempt at qualification. Following Follow-ing the briefing we were fed an excellent meal by members of "B" Battery before going out on the range. We left the St George Armory at 1:30 p. m. and arrived at the target range at 2 where we Immediately Im-mediately began to set up the targets to begin firing: then it happened, the famous St. George weather broke and we were nearly blown off the face of the map. After everyone had had their chance to fire, a demonstration demon-stration was given on firing the bazooka. While those who had not qualified quali-fied In the firing of small arms were at St. George last Sunday, the rest of the unit went out Into the hills near Cedar and were familiarized with such weapons as machine guns, pistols, Mi's carbines and other equipment, which Is an anuual requirement of the members of the unit before be-fore they go to camp. During the week the Armory had the pleasant experience of a visit from a group of local elementary ele-mentary school students. Members Mem-bers of the classes of Mrs. Frank Cooley. Mrs. Leo Larson and Mrs. Collin Smith were shown through the armory and shown the weapons wea-pons and equipment of the battery. bat-tery. I |
