Show American Legion Auxiliary Announces Essay Winners I The one great chaiai terlstu I ivhieh distinguishes our form of 'government from all the rest is I .lie recognition of the truth that ; the inherent ami fundamental rights of man are derived from God and not from government, dictators or majorities. These rights which are the gilts to man from his Creator are: Freedom of worship. Freedom of speech and press; Freedom of assemblage; Freedom to work and to enjoy the lruits of his woik which means property rights, and the right to pursue happiness so Ion;; as he does not harm others or infringe upon their rights and freedom. Upon these basic principles princi-ples the whole structure of our .orm of Government was established estab-lished by our forefathers. Under this philosophy of gov- j -Tiiment, the withdrawal of hu-1 nan rights is impossible unless he American people let it hap I pen. There are those amo"g us who would have us discontinue praying, pray-ing, discontinue the inscription on our coins, and even exclude the words "Under Clod" from our Pledge of Allegiance. This is why it is so important for us to protect tiie ideal and philosophy of TRUE AMERICANISM. i The American Legion Auxiliary Auxil-iary realizes that the American people must never forget GOD the treatoi and source of their rights. We know that God is an essential part of ileal American ism in fad, without Him there is no Americanism. Recognizing this fact and hoping to help young people to realize it also was the reason that the title chosen for this year's essay contest con-test was "One Nation Under God." Essays pertaining to this subject sub-ject were written by both Cedar City Junior and Senior High School students. Many excellent essays were submitted and the American Legion Auxiliary wish es to thank all those who parti-I parti-I cipated. We wish to give a spe-I spe-I cial thanks to those English I teachers who took the time and trouble to supervise this undertaking. under-taking. After careful reading and study stu-dy of the essays by several Judges Jud-ges the following students were declared winners. In the Junior High School division first place went to Susan Murray, second j place to Jon Hunter and third I place to Anne Milne. In the senior sen-ior high school division first place went to Peggy Lunt, second place to Lorraine Fife and third place to Joanne Hargrave. These six essays will now be sent to compete In the district contest. The winners from the district will be sent to th" state contest to vie for national honors. hon-ors.
