Show I Delta, Millard, Milford Await Region Playoff With two games last week end involving Millard and Milford, and Delta and Beaver, the curtain cur-tain came down on league play in the Millard Division of Region Eight. And with Millard taking a nigh scoring contest from Milford Mil-ford at the latter place Friday by an 89 to 73 score, and Delta taking a 72 lo SI win over Bca- ver at the latter place, the stand lng came up about as we said they would lor the past two oi thre weeks. The final standings in the division di-vision arc as follows: MILLARD DIVISION (Final Standings) Delta 8 0 1.0)O Millard 6 2 .75 Milford :. 3 5 .375 Parowan 2 6 50 Beaver 1 7 .125 With their last Friday win over Beaver, the Delta Rabbits finished finish-ed the league season undefeated, the only team in Utah's class L ranks to do so. They won the division championship the week before, and a place in the State Class B. Tournament. Millard took seiond place by trimming Milford, but both are still in the running for the third place entry In the Class B Tournament Tour-nament from Region Eight, and if the home floor advantage is as great as upstate papers say it is, Millard has a good opportunity opportuni-ty to get In the big meet, as that school Is hosting the region playoff. play-off. Take away the home floor advantage and the Dixie Division teams, Cedar and Kanah, look to be the best. For Parowan and Beaver, fourth and fi.'th place teams In the Millard Division, the season is over, and they can begin to look ahead to baseball, track and field and tennis. And from what we hear from the local high school, this is going to take place Immediato'v if the weather remains favorable. According to the program the spring sports will be divided be tween Charles Bilnkerhoff and Lowell Caldwell, with the former taking over the baseball sport and the latter taking over the track and field and tennis. While the 1965 basketball season sea-son was rather on the bad side for the Parowan Rams it was a lot better than the 1961 season in which the Rarns failed to win a league game and finished finish-ed in the celler three games behind be-hind the nearest team in the division. Pa rowan's wins this year were a close one over Beaver and n big win over the Milford team, both on the Parowan floor. We aren't making excuses for the Parowan team's nlay this season, but it Just didn't have the height and weight to compete com-pete with other teams in the division and area tor the overall over-all season. In the playoff for the Region Eight championship on Saturday Satur-day night at Fillmore, between the Delta and Dixie teams, we will go along with the Rabbits over the Flyers, unless the latter team comes up with a better brand of ball than they have been playing over the past two or three weeks. The Junior Varsity team at the Parowan High enjoyed a very to 80 of its games during both the practice and league season. Most of the JV games were closer clos-er and as exciting as the varsity games, and the members of the local JV squad, played heads up ball, featuring good passing and basket shooting in most of their games. A number of these boys will move up next year and give a big boost to the returning members of this year's Varsity squad. |
