Show U of U Press Officer Addresses Founders' Assembly "You are not worthy of the present, you do not deserve the future, if you are insensitive to this past from which you have sprung." Those are the words of Dr. A. R. Morensen, director of the University Uni-versity of Utah Press, in his appearance ap-pearance before students and twonspeople at the College of Southern Utah Founders' Day assembly as-sembly Tuesday. Dr. Mortensen emphasized that he did not feel, however, that we should bury ourselves in the past, but should enjoy the pleasures plea-sures that lie in living out of one's time. "Visits to the past help keep us balanced by enabling us to feel more clearly and intelligently intelligent-ly our own Identity," Dr. Mortensen Mor-tensen stated, then went on to relate Incidents in the history of Iron County to illustrate to his audience how history affects them personally. He said that phases of each one's history are "only small pieces. But like the individual bricks in a wall or building, these little pieces, when put together to-gether make the larger story of our state and nation." Following the assembly '' Dr. Mortensen also addressed members mem-bers of the CSU faculty and their guests at a luncheon held at the CSU student center. During the afternoon a workshop work-shop was also held with Dr. Everett Cooley, of the Utah State Historical Society, leading a discussion on the possibility of establishment of a chapter of the society in Cedar City. Theme of the Founder's Day activities was "We founders best by preserving a record of their accomplishments." |
