Show AT REGULAR MEET City Council Makes Application for Funds To Realign Airport Runways Browning Piatt was authoriii to make formal application to the Federal Aviation Agency for a proposed extention 1 1 the riorth-south runway of the Municipal Mu-nicipal Airport, by the Cedar City Council in session Thursday Thurs-day evening, March 15. Upon recommendation of Mr. Piatt as counsulting engineer, the Odar City Airport Commit-ttee Commit-ttee and the FAA the realignment realign-ment recommendation was approved ap-proved at the council meeting. It was pointed out that the realignment, re-alignment, rather than an extention ex-tention and improvement on the present runway, would eliminate a hazard to the south and would qualify the airport to meet regulations of the federal government. A rough estimate of the realignment rea-lignment proposal was $493,000. Ir approved for federal funds the federal portion of the cost would be slightly over 62 per cent with the city required to pay 13 per cent and the state to pay 18 percent, per-cent, The realignment program would also reduce the minimum landing requirements for commercial com-mercial aircraft, it was stated. Request for funds would be in 1963, it was indicated. , In other action of the council bids for the sale of $30,000 in general obligation water bonds were opened and the firm of 5o-iigiier- and Co. oi Denver, Colo., was appointed as agent.
