Show OC Directors Vote To Retain 4-Year Competition A rather surprising actioi. came forth from the spring meeting meet-ing of the board of directors of the Intermountain Collegiate AtWetic Conference, held in connection con-nection with the I C A C track and field meet at Ogden over the week nd. As a result of balloting of the member schools of the ICAC a proposal to eliminate all competitive com-petitive athletics to two years was defeated. For the proposal, which prior to the meeting was considered by most as a certainty, certain-ty, a two-thirds vote was necessary. nec-essary. If passed it would have amended the present rules which aUows four-year competition of athletes. Of the eight schools of the ICAC including 4n the southern south-ern divisionCollege of Southern Utah, Dixie," Snow and Carbon, and in the northern division Weber, We-ber, Ricks, Northwest Nazarene and Boise, a 50-50 split was indicated. in-dicated. Four schools' voted for the amendment and four voted against it Dixie, Snow, Carbon and Weber, all voted for the reduction re-duction to two year competition. Three of the four votes in favor were from the Southern division with CSU casting the only negative neg-ative vote from this division. New Proposal Drawn As a result of the defeat of the proposed amendment a rond amendment was drawn up tr be voted on in the fall. This amendment amend-ment .would limit two-year schools, to only two- year competition compe-tition and allow the four year competitive agreement to only those schools affording four year iu ultra, kwuu "ut tiili iiTiCnd - ment is to discourage athletes from spending three and four years in a school which offers only a two year curriculum. Without this amendment, in other oth-er words, a basketball player : . I could enter school each fall quarter, quar-ter, participate through winter' quarter and drop enrollment in the spring and thus participate! for three years while in a Junior! college. ! Location of the conference track and field meet for the next three years was also decided at; the meeting. In 1957 the Col-j lege of Southern Utah will host the meet followed in 1958 by Boise and in 1959 by Weber CcJ-lege CcJ-lege in Ogden.
