Show School Board Decides In Favor of New School Building A decision was reached at the meeting of the Board of Education Educa-tion of the Iron County School District that no attempts would be made a remodel the Parowan Elementary School. Rather efforts ef-forts will be turned toward pro-vldlng pro-vldlng a new building as soon as possible. The matter has been under stu-dy stu-dy for some time since there Is a definite need for Improved housing lor the school. An architect archi-tect and engineer, after making a thorough study of the 39 year old building, reported that it would not be feasible to remodel the old structure to provide the needed improvements'. In accordance ac-cordance with this report the board decided to work toward the new building. Some time ago Superintendent Ianthus Wright was authorized to begin work toward the purchase of a site for a new building, and these efforts ef-forts will be continued. Already part ef the land needed has been purchased,-and contracts have been made with other property owners Involved. Child Guidance It was also decided that the school district will continue with the child guidance program conducted con-ducted last year in cooperation with the State Department of Health. Other districts of the area ' will ..probably discontinue the program this year, but the program will (continue locally... A slight change was made In the responsibilities of Mary McMillan Mc-Millan who has served since 1947 as' primary supervisor. Beginning this year Miss McMillan wUl be. ijvf4ujum director and wul work directly with both the elementary and secondary school staffs. RecetT One Bid , In response to a recent call for bids for the Installation of a sprinkling system at the Cedar North Eelementary School only one bid was received, and this was held pending a recall for bids. The call appears on another anoth-er page of this issue of the Record. Rec-ord. Contract was let for a paint application ap-plication for walnscoatlng and casings in the hallways of the Junior high school building, at a cost of $540. The superintendent was also Instructed to get specifications jfor tile floors In the halls of the j Junior High School so that' a I call for bids may be Issued. |
