Show Partridge Stocks Planted in Chosen Sites Chukar partridge brood stocks from the state's two game bird farms at Price and Spnngvllle, have now been planted in the' wild, the department of fish and game said today. - I The 4.4O0 mature birds were released ln 20 chosen sites where many are expected to raise wUd broods of young birds this spring. The department said this was the earliest date on which a release re-lease of the farm brood birds had been made during the five years' of the chukar program. 1 These birds began laying about six weeks ago and were held on t the farms until the goal of 20,000 eggs had been reached with which to continue the chukar ! program during the year ahead, j The 20 plants of 200 or more 'birds ln each were made in 16 different counties. Eleven were made in new areas, while nine were stocked as supplements in sites planted earlier this spring at the time the brood birds at the hatcheries were being sorted , for the laying season, i 1 The 20,000 eggs are now being Incubated at the two farms. As many of the young birds as farm facilities can handle wiU be carried car-ried through the coming year for use 'as brood stock and mature bird plants at that time. A ma Jority will be planted as Juvenile birds during August this year. Slightly over 41.000 chukar partridge have now been released releas-ed in 68 planting sites over the state since five years ago when the current program was undertaken under-taken by the department to establish es-tablish this prime game bird In Utah. Possible chukar hunts this fall in some counties are now forecast fore-cast this year, provided a good spring hatch occurs and Jarge broods are in evidence during the late summer brood counts. |
