Show I Pryor Wins Bowling Championship Art Pryor edged out Walt At-kinsen At-kinsen in a three-game playoff Monday evening to win top money mon-ey and the championship trophy in the first annual Cedar City Bowling Clasic, southern Utah's baby endurance. Pryor and Atkinsen were tied at the closing of the regular tourney play with a total of 2593, place. Pryor then went on to edge out Atkinsen 639 to 619 in a three game tournament, open to Iron County Bowlers only. The 12 games had to be bowled continuously con-tinuously without any rest between be-tween games. Humbert Rosenberg, manager of the Cedar Bowling Lanes, where the Clasic was staged, indicated in-dicated that the tournament would be held each year and that it will be open to all. Tournament Tourna-ment Is on a handicap basis for special scratch prizes and special high game scratch lane prizes. Special scratch prizes were awarded to the following: Gordon Twitchell was awarded a Black Beauty bowling ball given giv-en by Dick McMillan's Sport Shop. Clare Randall won a bowling bag and shoes given by the bowling lanes and Grant Seeg-miller Seeg-miller won a pair of bowling shoes given by Meadow Gold Dairies. Special scratch game alley prizes pri-zes (this was a special prize for the highest scratch game bowled on a pair of lanes during the tournament) were presented, barrels bar-rels of Chicken given by Arctic Arc-tic Circle. Winners were Eddie Miller for a 256 game; Art Pryor for a 247 game; Jack Strate for a 234 game and he won a second barrell of chicken for a 225 game; Jack Strate for a 232 game and Elwood Bo'vler for a 226 game. For cash money, Pryor and Atkinsen finished first and second. se-cond. Others, in the order of their finish wore: Richard Crlpps, Tommy Kirtli?y, Steve Asmus, Jack Strate, Elwood Bowler and Humbert Rosenberg. Two women were entered in the tournament competition. They were Tlllie Bierdennan and Geniel Twitchell. Both placed Just out of the money. Next year, it was indicated, a special women's division will be staged. Rosenberg also announced this week that Dick McMillan, professional pro-fessional bowler, will be at the Cedar Bowling Lanes, this week through Friday May 26 to give free instruction to any bowler wl-hlng to learn. Appointments can be made at the Bowling Lanes. |
