Show Elks Lodge Assumes Sponsorship Of July 4 Week End Two full days of activities have been planned for Cedar City on the long week end of July Fourth, it was revealed by the BPOE Lodge No. 1556 of Cedar Ce-dar City, which is In charge of the event. With the coordination of the Elks Lodge and the participation of the College of Southern Utah, Iron Rangers, and the Lady Lions, and the Volunteer Fire Department, De-partment, a gala celebration has been outlined. Klckoff for the activities will be on Thursday evening, July 3 when the Elks and CSU athletic department will sponsor a top notch fight card. This event has been moved to the evening of the third to elemlnate conflict with other activities. On July 4, a 21-gun salute will start the day's activities at 6 p. m. wit martial bands to perform from 6 to 9 a. m. At 9 a. m. the Lady Lions will sponsor their annual miniature parade and a young gToup of royalty, between 4 and 5 years of age, will reign over this event. At 10 a. m. a patriotic meeting will be held on the city park and beginning at 10:30 p. m. races for children from 4 to 9 years of age will be staged. In addition, a number of concession con-cession iiiMiliis similar io those erected for last year's celebration celebra-tion will be In operation on the park. This will include the dunking dunk-ing tub set up again this year. At 12 noon races for 10 to 17-year-olds will get under way In addition to bike racing and greased pole climbing for the youngsters. At 3 p. in. the Junior Legion baseball team will take over on the municipal diamond. A rodeo will be staged at the Iron Ranger's Riding Club corral In Cedar Canyon. This Is scheduled sched-uled to get under way at 6:30 p. m. and will be completed In time for citizens to return to Cedar Ce-dar City for the giant fireworks display under the auspices of the Cedar City Colunteer Fire Department De-partment at 9 p. m. Final even of the day will be a free public dance to conclude the activities. |
