MacDonald, superintendent superinten-dent of the Columbia Iron Mining Min-ing Company at Cedar City, a subsidiary of the Columbia- Ge-nevt Ge-nevt Steel Division of U. S. Steel, will be honored by the University of Utah for outstanding accomplishment accomp-lishment in the field of mii.ing engineering during graduation exercises next month. Mr. MacDonald will be awarded award-ed the highly coveted professional profession-al degree of Engineer of Mines. The degree, which has been awarded only five times In the history of the university, is conferred con-ferred upon a Utah graduate In recognition of outstanding pro fessional accomplishment In his field. A native of Kanab, Utah, Mr. MacDonald joined the Columbia Iron Mining Company In .1940, when there were only 21 employ-ees employ-ees at Iron Mountain mine. Since that time, he has risen through a succession of assignments as mine engineer, general foreman and mine superintendent. In December, De-cember, 1952, he was named to his present position as general superintendent Active In community affairs, Mr. MacDonald is serving his second term as president of the Cedar City Chamber of Com- merce. He is married to the former for-mer Mary Macfarlane of Cedar City, and they have two children, G. D and Lauren. |
