Show Sam Holland Bids Cedar Citv Adieu May 15, 1958 Dear Friends of Cedar City: I am sorry to say that I am going go-ing to leave you. I have spent 33 years, half of my life, here with you. When I was young, I can say that I traveled all over the world, and I have never found better people than the ones in Cedar City. Of course, I know, there are a few cranks here who don't like me, because I am a Jew and maybe some are jealous of me. I can say that I am proud because be-cause I am a Jew, that my ancestors, an-cestors, like Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, were Jews and gave a light to all the people in the world. Of course, some people don't like Jews because they say that the Jews killed Christ. If Christ hadn't been killed, there wouldn't be a Christ and no one would have believed in him. What Is the difierence who people worship? wor-ship? There are too many nationalities nation-alities and beliefs. A' Catholic, a Jew, and a Mormon can all be-j be-j lieve, but there is one God for everybody. I have had many hard times in my life. I fought in the First World War, I went through the Russian Revolution that over-1 threw the Czar, and I lived i through eight years under the Bolshevik government. These have been hard times in my life.) Thank God I came to the United States, a free country. I am willing will-ing to eat one meal a day here, before I eat three meals with the Bolsheviks. What good is a man's life anyway, if he has no freedom. free-dom. Some people tell me that the Bolsheviks are good. I wish they would go there and spend only six months. Then they would see how good it Is. I, myself, have a wife, two children chil-dren and five grandchildren, that I am going to go to, to spend the rest of my life with them. I feel awfully sorry that I have to leave the few very good friends that I have here, Mr. and Mrs. Brock- meier, Mr. and Mrs. Christensen, Mr. and Mrs. Whetten, Mr. and Mrs. Nelson, Morgan Slack and family, Dr. Robert Thorley, Mr. and Mrs. Steve Asmus and Roy Lundgren. Now before I close, I would like to tell you a little joke. There was an old man. He called call-ed his children together and said, "Children, my time has come to pass away. Therefore, I want to tell you that any time when you come to a little town and want to do business, ask if there are any Jews in town. If you find that there aren't any Jews, then leave the town alone, because the town isn't worth a damn." Therefore, I tell you like a friend, look for another Jew for Cedar City or the town won't be worth a damn. I wish you all happiness and good luck. Sometimes I will come back to visit. When I go to Las Vegas, I will come back to see you. . Your friend SAM HOLLAND |
