Show LIVING IN THE ESCALANTE VALLEY Scout Awards Meet The Cub Scouts will hold their pack meeting on May 23, to conclude con-clude their "Keep America Beautiful" Beau-tiful" month. The following awards are to be presented to the scouts: The Lion badge will be presented to William Margie of Den 4; Kenny Baze of E'en 2 will receive the Gold Bear Arrovv, and David Piper of Den 2 will be awarded the Gold Lion Arrow. The Ideas Committee for June will be Joe DelVecchio and Hal Tucker. They will present their Ideas for the June theme of 'Trails, Treks and Trips." Joe Barney, the Regional Scout Director, will plan and direct an "outdoor Cookeree," to be held the first part of June. The exact date will be announced at a later la-ter time. News in Brief By Marileen Austin Mrs. Selma Godard was taken to the Iron County Hospital Sunday Sun-day evening, after having fallen from a piece of farm machinery. It was discovered that she had three broken ribs. Mrs. Godard stayed in the hospital overnight, and is at home now, convalescing from the very painful experience. experi-ence. The Ray Hunts have had several sev-eral of their children home over the week end. Stanley and two of his children from Salt Lake Ciiy; Clyde and his wife and son, and Lucille, who is attending attend-ing school in St. George. The Stake MIA Leadership meeting was held in Panaca last Monday. The following people attended: at-tended: Don Applegate. Jack Moyle. Bill Hunt, Mrs. Mildred Tullis. Mrs. Marilvn Holt and Miss Karma Taylor. Stant Ha.'t went with a group of students from the C S U on a field trip to northern Utah. Among other things, they visited the Utah State Prison at the Point of the Mountain; the Utah State Hospital at Provo; the school for the Deaf and Blind and the Industrial In-dustrial school in Ogden Gylnn Simklns. former resident of Enterprise and father of Kent Simkins, died in St. George last week. He had been living in St. George for the past few years. Funeral services will be an- naunced later. Pfc. John C. McGarry was promoted pro-moted to a Sp. 3 last week. Miss - Ann and Master Evan Thorley were featured in Mrs. Gertrude Lund's piano recital on Monday night. The recital was held in the Enterprise Ward chapel cha-pel at 8:15 p. m. REPORT FROM CAMPFIRE GIRLS By Carol Robinson May 15, 1958 The Camp Fire Girls were hostesses Thursday night to the Valley Women's Club, opening the program with the Law of the Camp Fire Girls song accompanied on the piano by Mrs. J. C. McGarry. Two games were played, the first called Pie Quizz and Mrs. Jack Crumb won first prize. The booby prize went to R. L. Stubbs. The second game called Proof of the Pudding ended by leading the guests to refreshments of cake and punch served by the girls. The closing song wt s sung ending the program. Each girl will receive a bead for attending a business meet-ting meet-ting of any civic organization. J |
