Show Officers Re-elected By Guidance Clinic; Expansion Planned The Southern Utah Guidance Clinic Advisory committee met Monday evening at the public health office in Cedar City. This committee is composed of throe, representatives from each of the following counties: Beaver, Garfield, Gar-field, Iron, Kane and Washington Washing-ton and three members-at laije. The present officers, elected by acclamation for another year, include in-clude Janthus Wright, chairman;' LaVoy Ksplin, St. George, vice: chairman; Ethel M. Smith, secretary, secre-tary, and Russell G. Merrill, Pan- guitch, treasurer. Mr. Wright is superintendent of Iron County schools, Mr. Esplln is superintendent superin-tendent of Washington County schools, Mr. Merrill is superintendent superin-tendent of Garfield County schools and Mrs. Smith Is associated asso-ciated v ith the Iron County welfare wel-fare department. Miss LaRue Ford, Iron County public nurse, gave a report of the number of Individuals from each county who have used the services offered by the Southern Utah Guidance Clinic in the past year. She reported these figures by county as follows: Beaver, 13; Garfield, 23; Kane, 5; Washington, Washing-ton, 61 and Iron. 23D. These fi ures include children and adults seeking solutions to personal problems In addition to patents teachers, welfare workers probation proba-tion officers, vocational rehabilitation rehabili-tation representatives who are seeking guidance in working with others. The Southern Utah Clinic, which comes to Cedar City once a month, is financed by the counties coun-ties and fees paid for Interviews Mr. Wright stated that plans are being formulated for expansion expan-sion of services to the counties whereby a staff member of the clinic would spend one day a month In each of the four counties. coun-ties. Headquarters for the clinic, however, would renialn in Cedar City. This plan would make services ' available to persons who were unable to travel to Cedar City. The clinic was organized in 195-1 with two staff members. Public demand for meeting mental men-tal health problems has resulted In the staff being increased to , five members, it was reported. |
