Show Reception Honors fl.C. Hatch, "Oscar" Yinner The reception held last Sunday Sun-day afternoon at the Parowan High School gym honoring Amos C. Hatch, who is retiring this year at a teacher at the school and who won state-wide acclaim last week as state award winner in the senior division of an "Oscar for Teachers," contest sponsored by the Utah Federation Federa-tion of Women's Clubs, was one of the most outstanding events ever held here. The reception was sponsored Jointly by the high school, the Literary Club and Parowan City. Over 300 people from Parowan and neighboring communities attended at-tended during the afternoon to greet Mr. and Mrs. Hatch and the members of their family, all of whom gathered to help honor their parents. Members of the family are Chester Hatch, Cedar City; Oleen Hatch, Fillmore; David Da-vid Hatch and Mary Elizabeth Peterson, Salt Lake City; Louise Robinson, Hazel Ann Whitney, Margaret Knight, Helen and Joe Hatch, all of Parowan. They, with members of their families made a large family group at the reception. re-ception. "A. C" cis he is called by many, is closing out a 47 year teaching career, broken only by his service in two world wars. He has been principal and teacher at the Parowan Par-owan High School since 1927. In addition to his school work, he has served capably in civic and church organizations, adding much to the community in which he has lived and reared his family. fam-ily. The reception was made much more enjoyable by the presence of a former Parowan teacher and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Ray D. Garner, and their son Val, of St. George. "Ray D." who is also retiring re-tiring this year as a teacher at the Dixie College and high school at St. George, came here In 1927 with Mr. Hatch, taking over the agricultural department of the school as Mr. Hatch became Its principal. The Garners remained with us for 16 years, leaving in 1952 to go to the Dixie school. During his time here he was very active in church, civic and sports affairs. In addition to his work In the ag department of the school he served as coach for several years I and took the high school basketball bas-ketball team to the state tourney tour-ney in 1932. Mr. Garner was also an excel- I lent singer and he demonstrated i I that he still has his voice by, singing at the Sunday reception. j His son Val also demonstrated, that he was a son of his father, by singing a couple of numbers during the afternoon. |
