Show Award Top 4-H Ratings in Utah ATTRACTIVE 19-jewel watches were awarded 4-H club members in . Utah for exceptional achievements in the 1954 Beautification of Home Grounds and Dairy Foods Demonstration programs. The winners and resumes of their records are: :( Mf- ;Jr;- )! Julia Warnlck Floranca Carlila Patricia Dahl For greatly improving her family's homestead surroundings, Julia Ann Warnick, 16, of Pleasant Grove has been named state winner in the 1954 4-11 Iieautitication of Home Grounds program. She has completed seven years of dub work in Home Grounds Beautification. Beauti-fication. Her mother is her club leader and together they planned new grouping and planting of shrubs. A new ilower bed was placed where the old cellar steps used to be and rubbish rub-bish around the incinerator removed. The garage entrance was made attractive at-tractive with flowers and shrubs. Julia Ann's study of entomology has helped her in her "grounds beautiful" beau-tiful" work. Apliids were the worst pests to her flowers and through her entomology project she has learned how to control them. Next year her club plans to clean up the highway and already they have put up "no dumping" signs. Mrs. Charles K. Walgreen of Chicago Chi-cago rewarded Julia Ann's efforts with a handsome 19-jewel wrist watch appropriately inscribed. Dairy Foods Demonstrations that have won first lienors in Utah were carried out by Florence Carlile, 17, of Hever, and the team of Louise White, 15, and Patricia Dahle, 15, both of Ogden. They have utilized many ways of varying the diet by the use of dairy products, appreciating the value of milk for good health. Their demonstrations demon-strations have been given before local and regional groups. Florence, under the leadership of her mother, Mrs. Douglas Carlile, gave the best individual demonstration demonstra-tion of dairy foods in the state this year on the subject "The Value of Dairy Foods in Fruit Ice Cream". Louise's and Patricia's high ranking rank-ing team demonstration was on how to prepare milk drinks. Their local leader is Patricia's mother, Mrs. George A. White. Chosen state winners, each girl is awarded a 19-jewel wrist watch by the Carnation Company. In carrying out this program, the club members learn to speak well in public and develop poise and jrood sportsmanship. They performed a genuine service to their communities as well. Both programs are conducted under the direction of the Cooperativa Extension Service. |
