Show PUBLIC FORUM DEAR MORG: If you care to use this short note, or make a comment on it, it m.-y be the means of getting some reaction to a much discussed discuss-ed question which I know has been in the minds of a lot of people peo-ple lately. I believe records will show that Cedar City has employed tour different City Managers. The last two served quite recently. Since the resignation and departure depart-ure of the last manager, I have asked myself many times, "Why does Cedar need a City Manager?" Manag-er?" "Why have one?" I have waited for months in the hopes that someone might bring this matter to the attention of the general public. The apparent lack of interest prompts this open letter let-ter to you. I recognize the fad that there are two schools of thought relative rela-tive to City Manager government. Some cities work very efficiently and harmoniously under the sys-'em; sys-'em; others do not. and I feel Cedar City "has not." It looks to me like the Mayor has been doing a pretty good job while acting in the dual i capacity of Mayor-City Manager. jWhy not have him continue so? The appointive department heads seem to be functioning in top order. It doesn't take all of the Mayor's time for city business, so why not pay him a commensurate commen-surate salary, say $2000 to $2100 a year, and save the difference of three or four thousand dollars over and above the salary of a City Manager? This would certainly cer-tainly bo a welcome relief to the tax payers. Keep the responsibility responsibil-ity anil authority in the hands of the Mayor and City Council, who by law assumes this obligation obli-gation when they are elected. G. R. TARRY |
