Show City Safety Council Member Urges Yuletide Care "Even a thousand Christmas presents would be no substitute to your family for your presence. For this reason, I urge everyone planning to take a motor trip this holiday season to drive with extra ex-tra care." H. E. Christensen made that comment today to the holiday traffic hazards program being conducted by Cedar City Safety Council and the National Safety Council. "In December, the weather man throws his wole book of tricks at drivers and walkers," said Mr. Christensen. We can expect rain, snow, sleet, ice, and hail. "And to add to the problem we find more than half the day in cither dusk or darkness in December. Putting all of these factors, together, it dosen't make for easy driving." Mr. Christensen said the best all-around safety adivee he could give motorists was "slow down adjust speed to conditions." condi-tions." But he added these suggestions sug-gestions for motorists planning holiday trips: 1. Plan your trip so that as much of the driving as possible will be accomplished during the light hours of the day. 2. Postpone your trip entirely when the weather is particularly rainy, snowy, or when sleet and hail is in the weather forecast. Be sure to consult a weather fore- least for the area to which you're III IV 3. Be certain your car is in tip-top mechanical condition before be-fore attempting to take any sort of a trip. 4. Use tire chains at all times when the road is covered with snow or ice. 5. Most. important of all: Adjust Ad-just your speed to conditions. "Thousands of American homes will be saddened by traffic deaths at this time of year," Mr. ' KyvirUKw... . . Christensen continued. "Many of I these traffic deaths need not oc- j cur . . . will not occur if every citizen in Iron County gives some thought and effort to sale driv- ing." v '., |
